RC ADVENTURES - TOYBOTA - BBC TOP GEAR TRUCK BOAT TRiBUTE - Toyota LC70 UTE w/ Oversized Outboard

Please help us to find bad videos. Broken or unappropriated video content?
TODAY We LAUNCH! With a True TOP GEAR Tribute - We are set to try and cross the giant water hole behind our home - with our 1/10th scale electric "Toybota" that I have been building. With a HUGE Electric Outboard Motor on the back, simulating the Giant Honda 225 hp
Jeremy Clarkson insisted he had on the back of the original Hilux Toybota, (as well as the Nissan "Nissank"), in the Car Boat Challenge episodes. Both of those episodes were some of my favourite. They inspired me to see if I can do it with a model. A challenge to be sure - but I think it can be done!

Here are the BBC Videos of Reference

BBC Top Gear Car-Boat Challenge: Toyota "Toybota"

BBC Top Gear CAR/Boat Challenge: Nissan "Nissank"

Over the last 10 days, I have built a Tribute Truck to this side segment of the Top Gear show - choosing theToyota Land Cruiser LC70 - as a Mix between the Two Trucks Jeremy was Captaining. My truck has cable driven steering for the outboard motor, and a seat for the driver. (That was in tribute to the Toyota Hilux) - The Outboard Pontoons, and Color were in Tribute to the Nissan. Both of these trucks come together for me in the Toyota LC70.. What a crazy build challenge!

As this is my first test for the truck - I have learned a lot. #1 - IMPORTANT: I have to fix the rogue leak. #2 - I now understand more of the dynamics and difficulty of getting this to work in full size, and modelling. The weight of the giant outboard engine causes a lot of downforce when under throttle. The Truck Bed is not very high, and can start to take on water if not properly balanced. But.. Lift the Tray/Bed of the truck up too much - and run the risk of the nose starting to "submarine".

Depending on the pitch of the outboard Motor depends on the amount of downforce you get - but, but event the stock shape of the front bumper of the truck- with too much applied power.. you start to "plow", and submerge.

I believe there is a "sweet spot" on the throttle, with a consistent speed. I am tempted to switch my Radio Controls around - so my outboard is not on a spring loaded throttle.

If you watch Jeremy in the Second Episode, (with the white Nissan), you can note that he keeps ca constant velocity. They joked about the speed in the episode... it is quite slow, but - I keep in mind the weight ratio, and shape of the vehicle. There are many similarities of the challenges that they had with the idea, as I ran into. Shape, thrust dynamics, flotation, leaking water, etc..

I will keep working on this project... I think I can do a "Channel Crossing"... I just have to work out a few bugs in my Toybota System.

But! Overall the Maiden Voyage went Great! Both Times, I was surprised that the rotating wheels actually moved the truck forward. Interestingly, when trying to maneuver the truck under the power of only the wheels - I had to turn the front tires in an opposite direction of the way I wanted the truck to go. When I think of the water flow, it makes sense though.

When I first climbed out of the water with the truck under power.. it was a very cool feeling. The pond is 30 feet deep!! And if we lost the truck, it would have been gone forever.. The risk was worth it, if it made you smile while watching!
